Ukraine ranks 12th in international steelmakers' rating

Ukrainian steelmakers increased production by 7.5%, to 1.711 million tonnes in June 2018 year-over-year, thus allowing the country to rise from 14th to 12th place in the list of the world's steel producers, according to the World Steel Association (WSA).

In January-June 2018, Ukraine increased steel output by 1.5% year-over-year, to 10.391 million tonnes, having risen from the 13th to the 12th place in the world steel producers' rating.

According to the WSA report, China traditionally topped the rating with 80.196 million tonnes produced in June 2018 (an increase by 7.5% from June 2017). Other countries in the top ten ranking were as follows: Japan (8.76 million tonnes, 4.2% up), India (8.739 million tonnes, 7.4% up), the United States (6.847 million tonnes, 0.8% up) , South Korea (6.122 million tonnes, 3.2% up), Russia (6.12 million tonnes 8.9% up), Germany (3.77 million tonnes, 4.6% up), Turkey (3.043 million tonnes, 0.7% up), Brazil (2.59 million tonnes, 2.2% down), and Italy (2.135 million tonnes, 1.5% up).

In total, all the 64 countries included in the WSA rating increased steel production by 5.8% in June 2018 year-over-year, to 151.379 million tonnes.

According to the association's report, China continues to lead in January-June 2018 with 451.157 million tonnes of steel (an increase by 6% compared to the same period in 2017). It is followed by Japan (52.98 million tonnes, 1.3% up), India (52.831 million tonnes, 5.1% up), the United States (41.849 million tonnes, 2.9% up), 5th and 6th positions were shared by Russia (2.8% up) and South Korea (3.7% up) with the same volume of production, which was 36.066 million tonnes. Others were Germany (22.455 million tonnes, 1.1% up), Turkey (18.893 million tonnes, 3.7% up), Brazil (16.862 million tonnes, 1.4% up) and Italy (12.806 million tonnes, 3.5% up).

In the six months of 2018, all the 64 countries included in the WSA rating increased steel production by 4.6% year-over-year, to 881.455 million tonnes.
