Antonov Airlines is completing the largest series of flights by its An-225 oversize cargo carrier.
The world's largest An-225 Mriya cargo aircraft designed by a Kyiv-based state-owned Antonov has successfully completed its 12th flight to deliver the load across South America, completing the largest project in terms of the number of consecutive flights in the history of this aircraft type.
As part of the logistics mission, 12 generators for a thermal power plant were transported from Bolivia to Chile by order of Hansa Meyer Global Transport GmbH & Co, Antonov's press service reported on July 27.
On each flight, Mriya delivered a 160-tonne load. It should be noted that the initial configuration of cargos did not allow loading them into the aircraft. To solve the issue, it was necessary to change the design of the relevant rigging fittings, that is, to add bolted-type connections for dismantling.
Another important technical challenge was to change the scheme of mounting the cargo across the fuselage because initially, distribution of mono-loads exceeded max values. So, the technology of cargo base reverse deflection was applied.
Experts also developed special recommendations to the flight crew on limiting the maximum permissible overload during the take-off, midair flight, and landing. Special training sessions were held.

Given the lack of equipment at Bolivia-based Chimore Airport to allow night time flights, the operation was planned to ensure that the aircraft lands at dawn and takes off before sunset.
