The official says his resignation is the only way to draw attention to a number of problems at the plant.
General Director of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Ihor Hramotkin has submitted his resignation because of disagreements with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine on strategically important projects.

"I regret to note that while completing projects, a serious obstacle has arisen in the form of an artificially created dispute between the officials from the ecology ministry and the management of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. This threatens the implementation of a positive scenario," Hramotkin said in a statement posted on the NPP's website.
According to him, the artificially created conflict quickly grew into a rather personal one.
"I could not find any other way than my own resignation. I'm afraid my withdrawal from office is the only thing that can draw attention to the current situation and at least partially solve the problem," he added.
As was earlier reported, a 1 MW solar power plant in the exclusion zone around the Chornobyl NPP is expected to be launched soon.
