Ukraine sees almost 24% rise in foreign trade deficit in H1

The deficit of foreign trade in commodities over the period under review grew by 26.8% y-o-y.

The deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods and services in January-June 2018 (H1) was estimated at US$3.806 billion, which was 23.7% up from the deficit recorded at $3.078 billion year-over-year (y-o-y).

The deficit of foreign trade in commodities in H1 2018 grew by 26.8% y-o-y, to $4.277 billion, while the surplus of foreign trade in services increased by 1.6 times, to $471 billion, according to the website of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

As UNIAN reported earlier, the deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in 2017 was estimated at $2.625 billion against a surplus of $541.6 million in 2016.

However, the National Bank of Ukraine said that Ukraine's foreign trade in goods and services showed a deficit of $6.848 billion in 2017, which was 25.2% up from the deficit reported in 2016.
