Ukraine's Deputy Minister for Temporary Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons George Tuka is confident that Ukraine will succeed in obtaining compensation from Russia for the occupation of Ukrainian territories.

The interdepartmental coordinating body the Ukrainian president ordered to create, called upon to make Russia provide compensation for the occupation of the Ukrainian territories, is already in the making, Tuka said, according to Apostrophe.

The document regulating its setup has already been submitted to the Ministry of Justice for legal monitoring. The official said that now it is necessary to address a whole range of issues related to the damage done to the Ukrainian state and business structures.

Asked whether it is possible to assess the extent of damage in territories temporarily beyond government control, Tuka replied affirmatively: "Here we will need to cooperate very closely with our intelligence agencies and through their extensive network of human assets to gather all information, summarize and analyze it. This is a huge layer of work," he said.

The official believes Russia will be resisting in every way possible, both during trials and once an awaited ruling is handed down obliging Moscow to compensate for damage inflicted by the occupation.

However, he believes that it is possible to ensure that reparations be paid.

"Who says that Putin is forever as well as Russia in its present form? I am perfectly aware that there will be enormous resistance, both on the part of the Russian Federation itself, and through international mechanisms with the involvement of various pro-Russian political or international structures lobbying Russian interests on the issue. But this absolutely does not mean that, firstly, this should not be done and, secondly, that this is impossible. I am convinced that this will be the case, but the timing depends on many external factors," Tuka stressed.
