Germany's Uniper announces start of Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline laying

The authorities of Germany, Finland and Sweden have already issued permits for the construction and operation of Nord Stream2.

Germany-based Uniper, one of Gazprom's European partners in the construction of Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline bypassing Ukraine, has announced that the pipes start being laid in the Baltic Sea.

It happened at the end of July, the Russian news agency RBC wrote on August 7, referring to Uniper Chief Financial Officer Christopher Delbrück.

Nord Stream-2 project involves the construction of two strings of a gas pipeline running from the Russian coast via the Baltic Sea to Germany. The construction completion of a 1,220-km long pipeline worth EUR 9.5 billion with a capacity of 55 billion cubic meters a year is scheduled for late 2019.

The authorities of Germany, Finland and Sweden have already issued permits for the construction and operation of Nord Stream2. A relevant decision is expected but has not yet been made by the Government of Denmark.

At the same time, according to Manfred Leitner, Member-Executive Board at OMV AG, the operator Nord Stream 2 AG has already developed an alternative route bypassing Denmark.
