Inflation in Ukraine in July 2018 recorded at 8.9% year-over-year

Inflation in Ukraine in July 2018 was recorded at 8.9% compared to July 2017 against 9.9% in June 2018 from June 2017.

Consumer prices in July 2018 declined by 0.7% from June 2018 after remaining unchanged in June compared to May and in May compared to April, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine said on its website.

Consumer prices have increased by 3.6% since the beginning of the year.

Prices of eggs have grown most, by 56.1%, in July 2018 from July 2017. Tariffs on maintenance of houses and adjacent territories increased by 23.6% and fares for transportation of passengers by road rose by 22.6%.

Meanwhile, prices of sugar decreased by 18.5% year-over-year, those of vegetables fell by 16% and fruits by 10%.

According to the State Statistics Service, underlying inflation in Ukraine in July 2018 from July 2017 slowed to 8.8% from 9% in June 2018 compared to June 2017, while there was 0.1% deflation in July 2018 from June 2018. The growth of an underlying rate of inflation has increased by 3.4% since the beginning of the year.

The inflation report does not include data from Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine, namely the Crimean peninsula, the city of Sevastopol, as well as certain areas in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

As UNIAN reported earlier, inflation in Ukraine in June 2018 was 9.9% year-over-year, against 11.7% in May 2018 year-over-year.

The National Bank of Ukraine predicts 8.9% inflation in 2018, which almost coincides with the government's forecast at 9%.

The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank project inflation in Ukraine in 2018 at 10%.
