Ukraine boosts poultry meat exports by 23% in H1

The Netherlands was the major buyer of Ukrainian poultry meat in the first six months of 2018.

Ukrainian farmers in the first half of 2018 (H1) boosted poultry meat exports by 23% year-over-year (y-o-y), to US$241 million.

"The first half of 2018 was characterized by an increase in exports of poultry. Their growth in monetary terms was by almost a quarter (+23%) from $196 million to $241 million. At the same time, an increase in physical terms was from 147,000 tonnes to 152,000 tonnes," the press service of the National Scientific Center "Institute of Agrarian Economy" said in a statement, referring to its deputy director, PhD in economics Mykola Pugachov.

The country's meat exports over the period under review grew by over 14%, from $265 million to $304 million y-o-y, the report said.

According to the expert, meat and offal exports demonstrated such a positive trend due to ongoing wide geographical diversification and consolidation in new markets after the loss of the Russian one.

In the first six months of 2018, the Netherlands was the major buyer of Ukrainian poultry meat, accounting for 21%. The shipments to Slovakia accounted for (9.6%), Iraq (8.2%), Belarus (7.7%), Germany (6.1%), Azerbaijan (5.5%), and Hong Kong (4.5%). The share of these countries is about 63% of Ukrainian meat exports, Pugachov said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine in 2017 exported 271,320 tonnes of poultry meat worth $389.64 million, according to the State Fiscal Service.
