At the same time, a simultaneous decline in exports and a rise in imports over the period under review caused a decrease in the surplus of Ukraine's foreign trade by $0.4 billion, to $1.3 billion year-over-year (y-o-y), the press service of the National Scientific Center "Institute of Agrarian Economy" said.

As in previous years, in H1 2018 Ukraine mutually traded in agrarian products mainly with the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Poland, France, and Germany. The share of foreign trade with these countries exceeds 75% of the total agricultural trade with the EU, the press service reported.

Ukraine exported mainly grain crops worth $975 million, oilseeds worth $235 million, sunflower oil worth $527 million, and oil meal worth $246 million.

In turn, Ukraine bought mainly alcoholic beverages, seeds of oil and grains crops for sowing, products for feeding animal, as well as tobacco from the EU.

It is also reported that Ukrainian exporters have already fully used the EU duty-free export quotas for wheat, maize, apple, grape juice, malt, fiber, processed tomatoes, honey, butter, as well as three quarterly quotas for poultry meat.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's imports from European states increased by 17% in 2017, to $2.27 billion. Revenue from agri-exports to the EU was estimated at EUR 5.52 billion.
