Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says the state-run JSC Artem is launching serial production of 152mm ammunition for the Hyacinth field artillery system as their final testing has been completed.

"The testing of 152mm shells for the Hyacinth artillery system has been completed. Now the state joint-stock company Artem is switching to serial production of 152mm shells, which will be supplied to the Ukrainian army in the near future," he wrote on Facebook August 20.

The head of state added that in the short term it is planned to launch production of ammo for other artillery systems, in particular, those of 155mm caliber.

As UNIAN reported earlier, in March 2018, Kyiv-based Artem, which is part of the country's major arms producer UkrOboronProm, successfully tested the new 152mm artillery ammunition.

The new high-explosive fragmentation shells are designed to engage enemy troops, artillery, and other fire means, as well as military fortifications and facilities.
