Flour exports from Ukraine soar to record highs in MY 2017/2018

Over the period under review, flour exports to China and UAE increased significantly.

Ukraine's flour exports in 2017/2018 marketing year grew by 5.4% to 429,800 tonnes from MY 2016/2017, which was a record high over the last 20 seasons since MY 1996/1997.

In June of MY 2017/2018, the country's flour export rates decreased by 23% from the previous month and shrank by 48% against June of MY 2016/2017, to 21,400 tonnes.

In MY 2017/2018, flour supplies to Singapore increased the most. The country became one of the major importers of Ukrainian flour, having purchased 20,700 tonnes of the produce against 2,300 tonnes reported in the previous marketing year.

Over the period under review, flour exports to China and UAE increased significantly (+54% and +79% from MY 2016/2017, respectively).

Despite a slight lag behind last year's pace, flour production in Ukraine is sufficient to ensure increasing exports. Thus, in January-June 2018, Ukraine produced about 870,000 tonnes of flour, which was 7% down year-over-year, the analysts added.
