Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau, which is part of Ukraine's state-run military-industrial concern Ukroboronprom, has developed a new charging mechanism for the T-84-120 Yatahan main battle tank, which can now use NATO-type ammunition.
"T-84-120 Yatahan tank is the main battle tank, equipped with a 120mm gun in accordance with NATO standards. The new conveyor-type charging mechanism is placed in a special compartment at the turret's rear. This compartment is separated from the crew and has special dynamic protection panels that allows maximizing crew safety and is fully in line with the developments of NATO Allies' design school," the press service of the State Concern said, adding that the MBT will be showcased at an Independence Day military parade in Kyiv Aug 24.

The company says the use of the NATO-type cannon significantly expands the range of ammunition that can be used by T-84-120, since it will be not only Ukraine-produced ammo, but also that made by NATO Allies.
"Besides, the Yatahan has enhanced running features: it is equipped with a 1,200-horsepower diesel engine, boosting a 48-tonne vehicle to 65 kmh. Specific power of T-84-120 is 26 hp/t, which is much higher than that of T-64, T-72, or Russian T-90 tanks, and also some modern NATO tanks. To ensure protection, there is multi-layer armor and modern means of dynamic protection as well as a complex of electric-optical protection against guided weapons," the report says.
