Ukraine marks 1,000 days without Russian gas

Over the seven months of 2018, the country imported gas exclusively from Europe.

Ukraine refused from importing Russian natural gas 1,000 days ago, in November 2015, according to the state-run gas transport system operator, Ukrtransgaz.

As reported earlier, Ukraine in late November 2015 halted all gas purchases from the Russian energy monopoly Gazprom.

In total, the country doubled gas imports from Europe in 2015 against 2014, to 10.3 billion cubic meters (bcm), simultaneously reducing by 56.5% the purchase of hydrocarbons from Russia.

Ukraine in January-July 2018 reduced natural gas imports by 31.5%, or 2.56 bcm year-over-year, to 5.578 bcm of gas, which was supplied exclusively from Europe.
