Groysman urges Ukrainian ambassadors to encourage foreign investors to take part in privatization

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has urged Ukraine's ambassadors to encourage foreign investors to take part in the privatization of Ukrainian state assets.

"It's very important to use your opportunities in the host country, while reporting information and ensuring appropriate contacts. We very much hope that this interaction will be ensured," he said at the 13th meeting of heads of Ukraine's foreign diplomatic institutions held in Kyiv on August 28.

The prime minister stressed the importance of such measures.

"It is important for us that investment is made in enterprises that are in state ownership but are not of strategic importance. It is desirable that such investment is high-tech, so that we could be competitive enough," he added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, passed a bill on privatization of state property on January 18, 2018. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko enacted the bill into law in March 2018.

Ukraine's Cabinet on May 10 endorsed a list of 26 companies for large-scale privatization in 2018. Later this list was reduced to 23 enterprises.

On March 28, the State Property Fund (SPF) of Ukraine approved the list of small-scale privatization facilities that are subject to sale in 2018. The SPF expects to get from UAH 1.5 billion ($53.8 million) to UAH 1.7 billion ($61 million) from the sale of the said facilities.

The state budget for 2018 provides for UAH 21.3 billion ($763.7 million) in privatization proceeds.
