Ukraine's foreign trade deficit up by one-third

Including the deficit of foreign trade in goods increased by 34.3%.

The balance of foreign trade in goods and services of Ukraine in January-July 2018 was reduced to a deficit of US$5.503 billion, which is 33% more than the deficit for the same period last year at $4.139 billion, according to the National Bank of Ukraine.

The deficit of foreign trade in goods for the period increased by 34.3% to $6.004 billion, while the surplus of foreign trade in services grew 1.5 times to $501 million, reads the report published on the NBU website.

According to the central bank, a significant acceleration in imports growth in July was due to the purchase of machinebuilding, food, and industrial products, as well as energy imports.

UNIAN memo. According to the State Statistics Service, Ukraine's foreign trade balance in 2017 was reduced to a deficit of $2.625 billion, compared to the previous year's surplus of $541.6 million.

The National Bank estimated the deficit of foreign trade in goods and services of Ukraine in 2017 at $6.848 billion, which is 25.2% more than the deficit for 2016.
