Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr says gas price hikes for households seem inevitable and predicts that debates on the issue will be completed in September.

"My task amid the inevitability of price hikes is to work out all mechanisms for additional social protection of people," the prime minister said on a TV channel.

He reiterated that the increase in the price of natural gas is one of the requirements of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a new disbursement to Ukraine, which is expected to help stabilize the country's economy.

According to Groysman, debates on the gas price increase for the population have been going on for about a year, and the process is expected to end in September.

"My strategy for the next decade is to minimize the impact of debts on GDP and on the life of every Ukrainian. This is the point of the debates, therefore we have been conducting them for about a year. I think we'll finalize them in September," Groysman said.

As UNIAN reported, to continue cooperation with the IMF, Ukraine should review the national budget for its compliance with the budget deficit benchmarks under the Extended Fund Facility and ensure the transition to a market-oriented formation of gas prices for households.
