Ukrainian vessel detained near Russia-occupied Crimea - Police

Four crew of the fishing boat are being held at a coast guard detachment in Sevastopol, the stronghold of the Russian Black Fleet.

Ukraine police have launched criminal proceedings into the seizure of the Ukrainian small-scale fishing vessel and the illegal detention of four Ukrainian nationals, according to the press service of the Main National Police Department in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol [Ukraine-controlled body that has temporarily been relocated from the occupied peninsula to mainland Ukraine] .

"The MPD in Crimea and Sevastopol received from the Azov-Black Sea Division of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine a report on the detention on August 28, 2013, by representatives of the" Border Guard  Directorate of the Federal Security Service in the Republic of Crimea 'in the Black Sea water area of a Ukrainian fishing vessel Yaod 2105 and its crew'," reads the statement.

Four Ukrainian crew are being held at a coast guard detachment in Sevastopol, the stronghold of the Russian Black Fleet.

Two criminal proceedings were opened under part 1. Art. 146-1 and part 2. Art. 278 of the Criminal Code, which provide for imprisonment for up to eight years.

The pre-trial investigation is being carried out under the procedural direction of the [Ukraine-controlled] Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
