The population of a small village of Shevchenkove outside Kyiv is only 895. But among them there were four green energy enthusiasts who installed solar power stations in their homes.

One of them is Serhiy Pedorenko, an electric engineer. A month and a half ago, he mounted on the roof of his two-story house and a small alcove a few 10 kW panels. And he says he is fully satisfied so far, according to the Novoye Vremya magazine.

Pedorenko's three neighbors have also bid on the solar. Nowadays, many Ukrainians across the country have "reached out" for the sun to get energy: Ukraine is experiencing a surge of interest in cheap solar power.

Some 4,700 households across the country have already installed solar panels, according to the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation.

Three and a half years ago there were only 40 such units in the whole country, while their total capacity was a mere 0.3 MW. Now this figure for private solar panels has reached 90 MW.

On the one hand, it is only 1% of the total energy production but on the other hand, the corresponding figure at the famous Dnipro hydropower plant is only seven times higher.
