NBU raises key rate to 18%

The rate rises for the second time in a row, after increasing in July to 17.5%.

The National Bank of Ukraine decided to raise its key rate by 0.5 percentage points, up to 18% per annum, with the rate rising for the second time in a row, after the latest increase in July to 17.5% per annum.

"The Board of the National Bank of Ukraine has decided to raise the discount rate to 18% per annum from September 7, 2018," NBU head Yakiv Smolii told a briefing Thursday.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the National Bank maintained the key rate at the level of 17.5% per annum after its increase five times in a row - up to 17.5% per annum in July, 17% in March, 16% in January, 14.5% in December and 13.5% in October 2017.

The maximum key rate historically was at the level of 30% from March 4 to August 28, 2015.

Inflation in Ukraine in June 2018 in annual terms was at 9.9%, slowing from 11.7% in the same period a month earlier.
