Ukraine's central bank expects new IMF disbursement this year

The current cooperation program is expiring in spring 2019.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) expects a next disbursement from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) this year.

"We expect the negotiations will be successful and we will reach a consensus on a new disbursement this year," NBU Governor Yakiv Smolii said at a briefing in Kyiv on Thursday, September 6.

Answering a question about the amount of the forthcoming tranche, the NBU's head said that it was a subject of talks with the Fund.

"New loans from the IMF, and related financing from other Ukrainian partners, are expected to boost the country's macrofinancial stability," he said.

As UNIAN reported, an IMF mission began work in Kyiv on September 6, as scheduled. The current cooperation program between Ukraine and the IMF, which is estimated at US$17.5 billion, is expiring in spring 2019. Ukraine has already received US$8.7 billion under the program. The National Bank earlier said it expects to borrow up to US$1.9 billion from the IMF this year.
