Ukrainian farmers thresh 35.1 mln tonnes of grain as of Sept 7

Ukrainian farmers by September 7 harvested 35.1 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops from an area of 10.1 million hectares, the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry's press service said.

In particular, 34.3 million tonnes of early grain and leguminous crops were gathered from 9.9 million hectares with a yield of 3.48 tonnes per hectare. The yield of maize was 603,000 tonnes (from 107,000 hectares, or 2% to the plan, with a yield of 5.63 tonnes per hectare).

Farmers also harvested 56,000 tonnes of buckwheat from 43,000 hectares, or 40% of the forecast, with a yield of 1.29 tonnes per hectare and 43,000 tonnes of millet from 107,000 hectares, or 51% of the plan, with a yield of 1.6 tonnes per hectare.

The yield of sunflower seeds was 2.2 million tonnes (from 1.1 million hectares, or 18% of the plan, with a yield of 2.01 tonnes per hectare), that of soybeans was 340,000 tonnes (from 144,000 hectares, or 8% of the plan, with a yield of 2.37 tonnes per hectare).

Rapeseeds were harvested from 1 million hectares, the total yield was 2.7 million tonnes; the yield per hectare was 2.61 tonnes.

Farmers have also started a campaign to sow winter cereals for the harvest of 2019. As of September 7, some 136,000 hectares, or 2% of the plan, were sown with winter grain crops. The plan is 7.2 million hectares, which is unchanged compared to the previous year.
