Ukrainian wheat reserves shrinking

On August 3, the ministry reviewed its forecast for the yield of wheat to 24 million tonnes from 23 million tonnes.

Wheat reserves in Ukraine as of August 1, 2018, totaled 13.1 million tonnes, which was 11.3% less than in the same period last year, the Ukragroconsult consulting agency's press service has said.

"Wheat reserves as of the reporting date decreased by 11.3% to 13.1 million tonnes against 14.8 million tonnes as of August 1, 2017. Barley reserves expanded by 19.8% year-over-year, to 1 million tonnes," the report said.

Maize stocks increased to 2.5 million tonnes, which was 18% more than last year.

Total stocks of grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine as of August 1 this year were estimated at 19 million tonnes, which was 12.8% less year-over-year, experts said.

In addition, stocks of sunflower seeds in Ukraine as of August 1 this year had made up 678,300 tonnes, which was 7% less compared to the same date last year. Of this amount, 426,900 tonnes was directly stored at agricultural enterprises' warehouses, and 251,400 tonnes was handled by enterprises engaged in storage and processing.

As of August 1, 2018, processing enterprises had reduced soybean stocks by 55.6%, to 60,200 tonnes compared to the same period last year. Rapeseed reserves at the reporting date exceeded last year's level and stood at 1.3 million tonnes due to the earlier start of harvesting in the current year.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's Agriculture Ministry kept its forecast for this year's grain yield at 60 million tonnes.
