Grain exports in Ukraine down first time in 5 years

Exports of grains from Ukraine in the 2017-2018 marketing year decreased by 9.6% compared to the same period last year, for the first time in five years, the press service of UkrAgroConsult agency wrote.

"In the 2017/18 season, against the backdrop of a reduction in yield for the first time in the last 5 years there was a drop in grain exports - by 9.6%, compared with the season before," reads the report.

In particular, the export of wheat, which over the past six years saw a steady growing trend, declined by 2% compared to the previous season.

Experts also noted that barley exports in the current season remained at the past year's level, with the main importer being Saudi Arabia.

As for maize exports in the 2017-2018 marketing year, Ukraine was not able to fully realize its export potential due to competition with the South American offer, experts said.

As UNIAN reported, according to preliminary data, in 2017-2018 MY, agrarians exported 39.4 million tonnes of cereals.
