Inflation in Ukraine crawls to 9%

Inflation in Ukraine in August 2018 in annual terms, compared to August 2017, was recorded at 9%, accelerating from 8.9% a month earlier.

At the same time, prices did not increase against July after a negative trend at -0.7% July to June, the State Statistics Service reported.

Compared to December 2017, prices increased by 3.6%.

According to the agency, the largest increase in prices in annual terms was reported for eggs - by 40.2%, road passenger transport -  by24.8%, and maintenance of households and adjacent territories - by 24.1%.

A decrease in prices in annual terms was recorded for sugar (18.6%), fruit (10.5%), and vegetables (4.2%).

It is also reported that the basic inflation in Ukraine in August was at 8.7% in annual terms, 0.1% - to the previous month and 3.5% - from year-start.

The Statistics Agency recalled that the data are given without taking into account the occupied Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as the occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

UNIAN memo. Inflation in Ukraine in July 2018 in annual terms was at 8.9%, slowing from 9.9% for the same period a month earlier. The National Bank predicts inflation at the end of 2018 at the level of 8.9%, which almost corresponds to the government forecast of 9%.

The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank expect this year's inflation in Ukraine to reach 10%.
