Ukrainian banks' debt to central bank expands in August

Ukrainian banks owe US$2.15 billion for refinancing loans.

The debts owed by Ukrainian banks to the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) for refinancing loans amounted to UAH 60.303 billion, or US$2.15 billion, as of September 1, 2018, which was 2.9% higher than the figure for August 1.

At the same time, the banks' debts for refinancing have shrunk by 12.2% since the beginning of the year, the NBU has said on its website.

The volume of NBU deposit certificates bought by the banks decreased by 65.7% in August and by 65% since the beginning of the year, to UAH 23.489 billion, or US$836 million.

As UNIAN reported, the Ukrainian banks' debts to the central bank for refinancing loans decreased by 7.9% in 2017, to UAH 68.891 billion, or US$2.45 billion, as of January 1, 2018.
