Number of cattle in Ukraine on decline

The number of cattle in Ukraine as of September 1, 2018, was 3.9 million head, which was 4.3% down year-over-year, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine has reported.

In particular, there were 2 million cows, which was 3.4% down on September 1, 2017.

In addition, the number of pigs decreased by 4.5%, to 6.5 million head, the number of sheep and goats fell by 4.4%, to 1.6 million head.

At the same time, the number of fowls increased by 2.8%, to 238.7 million birds.

The State Statistics Service noted that the report does not include data from the temporarily occupied areas, namely the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol and some districts in Ukraine's Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

As UNIAN reported, the number of cattle in Ukraine in 2017 shrank by 1.5%, to 3.63 million head. In particular, the number of cows decreased by 2.1%, to 2.06 million head. The number of pigs fell by 8.2%, to 6.12 million head, while the number of sheep and goats increased by 1%, to 1.32 million head and the number of fowls grew by 1.7%, to 205.1 million birds.
