Bill No. 0196 on ratification of the agreement on financing of the Danube Transnational Program was backed by 246 MPs with the required minimum at 226 votes.

"In case of ratification, the EU will provide Ukraine with EUR 5 million free of charge for projects of the Danube Transnational Program... The program is one of the financial tools of the European Union for the implementation of the EU strategy for the Danube region," Vyacheslav Nehoda, Ukraine's First Deputy Minister for Regional Development, Building and Housing, said on September 19, reporting on the bill.

As UNIAN reported earlier, in December 2017, Ukraine, Hungary and the European Union signed an agreement on financing of the Danube Transnational Program worth EUR 5 million.

The projects will be financed in the following priority areas: improving the readiness for environmental risk management in the Danube region; increasing competitiveness for businesses and social innovations; promoting the sustainable use of natural and cultural heritage and resources; and increase in investment capacity to solve major public problems.

The related activities envisage the implementation of joint cross-border cooperation projects aimed at social and economic development of Ukraine's part of the Danube region (Kyiv, Odesa, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Zakarpattia regions), which in turn will contribute to the implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union.
