Ukraine sees over 36 % rise in foreign trade deficit in Jan-Aug

The deficit of foreign trade in commodities over the period under review grew by 32.2% y-o-y.

The deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods and services in January-August 2018 was estimated at US$6.814 billion, which was 36.3% up from the deficit recorded at $5 billion year-over-year (y-o-y).

The deficit of foreign trade in commodities over the period under review grew by 32.2% y-o-y, to $7.284 billion, while the surplus of foreign trade in services shrank by 7.7%, to $470 million, according to the website of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

As UNIAN reported earlier, the deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in 2017 was estimated at $2.625 billion against a surplus of $541.6 million in 2016.

However, the National Bank of Ukraine said that Ukraine's foreign trade in goods and services showed a deficit of $6.848 billion in 2017, which was 25.2% up from the deficit reported in 2016.
