Ukraine to import Russian electricity at 85 kopiykas per kW/h

Ukraine is experiencing an acute shortage of thermal coal due to the hostilities in the Donbas, and so will import electricity from the Russian Federation at the price of 85 kopiykas per kW/h, Energy Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

"The [price of the] electricity imports will be 85 kopiykas [per kW/h] ... which is cheaper than the price of [electricity generated by] Ukrainian thermal power plants," he said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian gas company Naftogaz Ukrainy has paid Russian gas company Gazprom in advance for the supply of one billion cubic meters of natural gas, which is to be delivered in January 2015.
