Russian banks' Ukrainian subsidiaries see US$308 mln in loss in Jan-Aug

Ukrainian-based subsidiaries of Russian state-owned Sberbank and VTB Bank in January-August 2018 posted UAH 8.7 billion (US$308 million) in losses, which is the largest volume among banks operating in Ukraine.

In particular, Sberbank's losses were estimated at UAH 7.083 billion ($251 million), while those of VTB Bank were at UAH 1.624 billion ($57 million), the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) said.

According to the regulator, the majority, or 64 out of 81 banks operating in Ukraine, received profit in the eight months of 2018.

PrivatBank reported the highest figure, that is, UAH 9.730 billion in profit, while Raiffeisen Bank Aval received UAH 3.681 billion and UkrSibbank posted UAH 1.733 billion.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian solvent banks in January-August 2018 received UAH 13.747 billion (US$487 million) in profit, which was up 4 times from UAH 3.429 billion ($122 million) year-over-year.
