Ukraine's defense giant UkrOboronProm has presented at the annual Arms and Security Expo in Kyiv its new armored reconnaissance vehicle Mongoose.

The Mongoose (formerly BRDM-NIK) armored reconnaissance vehicle is a modernized version of the Soviet-built BRDM-2 amphibious armored vehicle developed by the SE “Mykolayiv Armored Plant.”

The Mongoose is enhanced with front armor. The hull is manufactured from armor steel which is 10 millimeters thick. Mounted protective armor elements give it additional tenacity. This scheme of armor will allow for a considerable increase in the level of safety of the vehicle as well as its crew.

The new IVECO engine allows the vehicle to reach speeds up to 100 kmh and tackle water obstacles.

All components, with the exception of the IVECO engine, are Ukrainian-made.

As reported earlier, UkrOboronProm has announced on September 7 that Promoboronexport signed a memorandum with the WZM company, a subsidiary of Polish defense contractor Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa SA (PGZ), on cooperation in the joint modernization of the Mongoose armored reconnaissance vehicle.
