During the Arms and Security 2018 Expo in Kyiv, the project of a high-speed missile boat Vespa, which will become a prototype for the new vessel, was presented, according to the Ukrainian Military Portal.

Chief Designer of the factory, Serhiy Belozubenko, said that with some minor differences the Lan project would be developed for the needs of the Naval Forces of Ukraine. It is noted that the vessel's weapons will be of domestic production.

In particular, the project provides for the installation of eight Neptune anti-ship missiles (Ukr), the Arbalet-K air defense system (Ukr), 16 Eagle portable air defense systems, 76 mm AK-176 artillery units, two AK-630M artillery pieces, two 12.7 mm machine guns, a Morena Delta-3D radar, and Protazan-K fire control system, Spys-K.

According to the publication, the 64.46 m long and 9.6 m wide boat will have a standard displacement of 550 tonnes and a full displacement of 640 tonnes.

With a max speed of 40 knots, the vessel's cruising range at an economic speed will reach 2300 miles. The boat is set to be manned by a 38 (+6) crew.

The Neptune anti-ship missile is being developed by the Luch Design Bureau in cooperation with other Ukrainian defense enterprises. It recently successfully passed one of the test phases conducted in the south of Odesa region.

The missile boat is intended for patrolling the water area, escorting and, if necessary, destroying enemy warships, cargo ships, and amphibious assault vessels, both independently and jointly with the Fleet’s strike forces.

The first stage of the manufacturing is set to start as early as this year.

As UNIAN reported earlier, a new Ukrainian navy vessel, the Centaur, was presented in Kyiv.
