The moratorium on farmland purchase and sale is still in effect in Ukraine.
Ukrainian state has got for free land plots totaling 25,000 hectares after the death of about 6,500 landowners, whose heirs did not claim their rights.
In 2017, there were 6,537 land plots in Ukraine with a total area of 25,072 hectares, from individuals who died intestate. That is, landowners' heirs did not claim their rights and the land was de jure transferred to the local authorities by court decisions, the Ukrainian news outlet Ukrayinska Pravda reported on October 10, referring to the Land Relations Monitoring report presented by the World Bank.
It should be noted that landowners during their lifetime had not been entitled to sell their land plots as the moratorium on farmland purchase and sale is still in effect in Ukraine.
