Ukraine cuts honey exports by 40% in Jan-Sept

Germany, Poland and the United States were key buyers of Ukrainian honey.

Ukrainian companies in January-September 2018 cut honey exports by 40% year-over-year (y-o-y), to 27,800 tonnes.

"In the nine months of 2018, [honey] exports fell by 40% y-o-y, to 27,800 tonnes estimated at US$57.4 million, which was 9% down against 2016," Ann Burka, a consultant at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), wrote on Facebook on October 11.

Ukraine's honey exports in September 2018 decreased by 39% y-o-y and by 20% against September 2016, to almost 5,700 tonnes, Burka said.

According to the official, the key buyers of Ukrainian honey are Germany, accounting for 29% of total honey exports from Ukraine ($16.8 million), Poland for 17% ($9.9 million), and the United States for 12% ($6.9 million).

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian farmers in 2018 fulfilled the entire annual quota for honey exports to the European Union within 10 days, given its last year's increase.

Ukraine exported about 48,000 tonnes of honey to the EU states in 2017.
