Operating license of Zaporizhia NPP's reactor 4 extended for another decade

The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU) has decided to extend the operating license of unit No. 4 of National Nuclear Energy Generating Company Energoatom's Zaporizhia nuclear power plant (NPP) for another decade after its installed life is over.

The relevant decision was made by the SNRIU Board on October 11.

As UNIAN reported, the SNRIU in 2017 decided to extend the operating licenses of units Nos. 1, 2, and 3 of Zaporizhia NPP.

UNIAN memo. Energoatom is Ukraine's largest electricity producer, accounting for about 50% of the country's overall power output. Energoatom is responsible for the safe operation of the country's nuclear power plants.

Zaporizhia nuclear power plant (NPP) operating six power units with a total capacity of 6 GW is the largest one in Ukraine and Europe. Its first power unit was commissioned in 1984, the second one in 1985, third in 1986, fourth in 1987, fifth in 1989, and sixth in 1995.
