Premilinary investigation suggests overload to be the cause of the incident.
Thousands of tonnes of maize covered the streets in the village of Nizhnyaya Syrovatka in Ukraine's Sumy region overnight Wednesday after a grain elevator exploded.
According to TSN, the incident occurred at about 2:00 on October 16, frightening the locals as many confused the powerful blast for an ammunition explosion.
As a result of the incident, some 10,000 tonnes of maize spilled across the adjacent street and local households.
The blast threw concrete slabs dozens of meters around the site.
Residents called the police to the scene. It turned out that one of the tanks where the grain was stored exploded due to the overload.
The investigation is underway.
