Ukraine boosts fruit, berry exports by 40% in Jan-Sept

Walnuts, frozen fruit and berries, as well as apples and pears were in the lead in exports in terms of revenue.

Ukrainian farmers in January-September 2018 boosted fruit and berry exports by 40% year-over-year (y-o-y), to US$157 million.

The leaders in exports in terms of revenue were walnuts ($69 million), frozen fruit and berries ($61 million), as well as apples and pears ($10 million)," the press service of the Ukrainian association of gardening and small fruit growing, Ukrsadprom, has said.

Key sales markets over the period under review were European Union countries, accounting for about two-thirds of total foreign currency earnings, according to experts.

Major buyers of Ukrainian fruit and berries in the nine months of 2018 were Poland ($32.3 million), France ($11.7 million), Belarus ($10.9 million), Turkey ($10.6 million), the Netherlands ($8.8 million), Germany ($7.4 million), and Italy ($7.2 million).

Since September 2018, Ukraine has been supplying fruit and berries onto the markets of Spain, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, the press service said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, total revenue from exports of Ukrainian agrarian products in 2017 rose by 16.3% against 2016, to over $17.9 billion. The major staples of Ukrainian agri-exports in 2017 were grain crops, accounting for 36.2% of the export structure, vegetable oil (25.1%), and oilseeds (11.3%).
