The National Anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine suspects a Ukrainian People's Deputy of embezzling $20 million from the state bank, according to the Special Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office.

The name of the suspect has not been disclosed.

It is noted that NABU detectives continue their pre-trial investigation which, besides an MP, also targets his close relatives and business partners who were allegedly complicit in seizing $20 million from the state bank.

SAPO says that the funds were embezzled through abuse of position, forgery of documents, and their use in conspiracy with bank officials.

The funds were needed to ensure the purchase of corporate rights of one of the enterprises located near the Black Sea coast. "Since the amount of collateral was insufficient for the loan to be issued, the complicit individuals conspired with bank employees to draft a goods supply contract, under which the right to claim funds in excess of UAH 100 million was transferred as collateral for the loan," prosecutors say.

After the credit committee and the board at the end of the working day made a decision on granting the loan, the corresponding agreement was immediately signed in the night hours. To fulfill the plan, the funds received were transferred to accounts in foreign banks and used to acquire corporate rights of one of the enterprises located on the sea coast.

"These corporate rights were further distributed between the MP's son, daughter, and his former business partner," SAPO noted.

The banking institution also suffered losses in the amount of the created reserve, which is more than UAH 130 million.

Ten persons have been detained and handed down suspicion notices. Preventive measures against them are to be selected shortly.

The appeal to Parliament on granting permission to bring the MP to criminal responsibility will soon be submitted to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, reads the report.
