Ukraine slides to 13rd place in WSA's rating in Sept

Ukrainian steelmakers reduced steel output by 7.6% in September 2018 year-over-year (y-o-y), to 1.8 million tonnes, having slid from the 12th to the 13rd place in the international steelmakers rating drawn up by the World Steel Association (WSA).

China continued to top the rating in September 2018 with 80.8 million tonnes of steel (7.5% up from September 2017). It was followed by India (8.5 million tonnes, 2.1% up), Japan (8.4 million tonnes, 2.4% down), the United States (7.2 million tonnes, 9% up), Russia (5.9 million tonnes, 1.3% down), South Korea (5.8 million tonnes, 3.4% down), Germany (3.7 million tonnes, 7.5% up), Brazil (3.0 million tonnes, 2.5% up), Turkey (2.8 million tonnes, 5.9% down), Italy (2.1 million tonnes, 0.8% down), Iran (2 million tonnes, 4.3% up), Taiwan (1.9 million tonnes, 6.5% up), and Ukraine (1.7 million tonnes, 7.6% down).

In total, the 64 countries ranked by the WSA increased steel output by 4.4% in September 2018 y-o-y, to 151.7 million tonnes.

China traditionally retained its top position in the ranking in January-September 2018 with 699.4 million tonnes of steel (a 6.1% increase y-o-y).

It was followed by India (79.6 million tonnes, 6.1% up), Japan (78.6 million tonnes, 0.4% up), the United States (64.1 million tonnes, 4.5% up), Russia (54.2 million tonnes, 1.8% up), South Korea (54.1 million tonnes, 2% up), Germany (34.0 million tonnes, 3.5% up), Turkey (27.9 million tonnes, 0.9% up), Brazil (26.0 million tonnes, 2.5% up), Iran (18.5 million tonnes, 20% up), Italy (18.3 million tonnes, 2.9% up), Taiwan (17.3 million tonnes, 1.8% up), and Ukraine (15.7 million tonnes, 0.8% up).

A total of 64 countries ranked by the WSA boosted steel production by 4.7% in the nine months of 2018 y-o-y, to 1.346 million tonnes.
