Ukraine, France to boost cooperation in animal production

Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Olha Trofimtseva says Ukraine and France plan to boost cooperation in production and certification of seeds, as well as in the development of animal production.

"Today, France ranks sixth among the EU countries with the largest share of foreign trade in agro-food products with Ukraine. In addition to the opportunities for increasing the indicators and diversification of the trade structure, our countries have many promising areas for cooperation in the agro-industrial complex. This refers to production and certification of seeds in line with international standards, development of animal production, and market research," the ministry's press service quoted Trofimtseva as saying on October 26 after a meeting of the Ukrainian-French ad hoc group in Paris.

The said areas of cooperation in the agro-industrial complex between the two countries were included in a joint statement, signed by the parties on the results of the meeting.

They also identified priorities for further partnership in the agro-industrial sector, namely the development of innovations and technologies in the agricultural sector through projects implemented by private sectors, the reshaping of the wine-growing and winemaking industry based on French experience, as well as production of goods with protected geographic indications, Trofimtseva said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, France accounts for 6.5% of total Ukrainian exports.

Trade in agricultural products between Ukraine and the European Union in the seven months of 2018 rose by 4.6%, to US$4.6 billion.
