Ukraine-U.S. trade sees 16% growth – economy minister

Exports to the United States grew by almost 32%, and imports – by 11%.

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Stepan Kubiv says the trade turnover between Ukraine and the United States in January-August 2018 grew by 16% year-over-year, to $2.6 billion.

"During the eight months of 2018, bilateral trade increased by 16% and amounted to almost $2.6 billion. Exports to the United States grew by almost 32%, and imports by 11%," Kubiv said during the opening ceremony of the program of the official U.S. trade mission, which arrived on a visit to Ukraine.

The U.S. trade mission in Ukraine is represented by 12 companies that represent the American agriculture, energy, infrastructure and IT sector.

In total, as part of the mission's work, it is planned to hold over 60 meetings between representatives of American and domestic businesses.

U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch during the opening ceremony said such a mission was the first on in 10 years, which confirms the relations between the two countries are moving in the right direction.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the volume of foreign direct investment in the economy of Ukraine (the share capital of non-residents) in the first half of the year increased by $1.039 billion.

According to the State Statistics Service, UAH 1.259 billion of new investments have been received over this period, but at the same time $278.7 million were out, and a positive revaluation amounted to $58.6 million.
