First official U.S. trade mission arrives in Ukraine after 10-year pause

The economy minister hopes the U.S. businesses will consider taking part in privatization of SOEs.

The official U.S. trade mission, consisting of 12 companies representing American agriculture, energy, infrastructure, and IT sector, has arrived in Ukraine after a 10-year pause in such visits.

As mentioned during the official ceremony, the visit will last two days. It is planned to hold over 60 meetings with representatives of Ukrainian businesses.

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Stepan Kubiv expressed hope that American businesses would be interested not only in the possibilities of opening new companies in Ukraine, but also take part in the process of privatization of state enterprises.

As a demonstration of improvements in business conditions, Kubiv said Ukraine had in recent years abolished over 14,000 obsolete standards, as well as planned to introduce European standards (1,500 per year), which should significantly improve the investment climate in the country.

According to U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, the mission is the first in the past 10 years, which confirms the relations between the two countries are moving in the right direction.
