Sales of electric cars in Ukraine grow by almost 90% in Jan-Oct

Sales of electric cars in Ukraine in January-October 2018 grew by 89% year-over-year (y-o-y), to 4,214 vehicles.

The rise was mainly due to imports of used cars accounting for 85% of the total sales in Ukraine, according to the Ukrautoprom Association's press service.

A total of 643 electric cars were sold in Ukraine in October 2018 alone. So, the demand for electric vehicles last month grew by 2.5 times y-o-y.

At the same time, electric cars with mileage accounted for 88% of electric vehicles imported in October 2018.

The Nissan Leaf model is the most popular electric car in Ukraine, as 403 such cars were sold in the country last month.

The BMW i3 model ranked second in terms of sales, as some 38 car drivers preferred this make.

The Tesla Model S car was third with 27 vehicles sold.

The RENAULT Zoe model took the fourth place in the ranking with 24 registered electric cars in October.

The FIAT 500e model ranked fifth with 23 cars sold.

As UNIAN reported earlier, sales of electric cars in Ukraine in 2017 soared by 2.3 times against 2016, to 2,697 units.

The Infrastructure Ministry of Ukraine expects the share of electric car sales on the domestic car market will grow to 15% before 2020 due to a program aimed at the development of the country's electric car market.
