Norwegian companies to invest over US$700 mln in Ukraine's renewables

Some US$1 billion in foreign investment has been injected into Ukraine's renewable energy industry since in 2015.

Norwegian companies plan to invest more than US$700 million in the development of renewable energy in Ukraine.

"Norwegian companies that have experience and technologies to work in this [renewable energy] market demonstrate a particular interest in the industry. In September, one of them, namely NBT, announced its plans to invest $450 million in the construction of 64 wind farms in Kherson region," reads an article, titled: "An Atlantean straightens small shoulders," published by the Novoye Vremya weekly on November 8.

According to experts of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency, some US$1 billion in foreign investment has been injected into Ukraine's renewable energy industry, namely solar and wind power plants, since in 2015.

In addition, they say that Norwegian-based Scatec Solar, engaged in the solar energy segment, is going to invest EUR 274 million in Ukrainian solar energy projects.

Scatec Solar CFO Mikkel Tørud says the Ukrainian economy is driven by a positive impetus and has big ambitions for continued growth, as evidenced by recent macroeconomic data. So, the company is planning to increase its investment portfolio in this growing market, the publication said.
