USDA raises maize yield forecast for Ukraine in MY 2018-2019

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has raised by 2.5 million tonnes, to 33.5 million tonnes, its forecast for the maize yield in Ukraine in the 2018-2019 marketing year (MY, July 2018-June 2019) compared to the October forecast.

At the same time, maize exports from Ukraine in MY 2018-2019 may grow by 2million tonnes in comparison with the previous estimates and amount to 27 million tonnes, according to the U.S. department.

The USDA also raised its forecast for barley shipments from Ukraine by 200,000 tonnes to 4.5 million tonnes.

In total, Ukraine's grain harvest in 2018 may amount to 67.2 million tonnes. Ukrainian farmers in MY 2016-2017 shipped 48.166 million tonnes of grain abroad, including 16.5 million tonnes of wheat, according to the USDA.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine in the 2017-2018 marketing year (MY, July 2017-June 2018) exported 39.375 million tonnes of grain crops to foreign markets, according to preliminary data.

Ukraine harvested 61.3 million tonnes of cereals and leguminous crops from 14.6 million hectares in 2017.
