Saudi Arabia has lifted a ban on imports of live sheep (lambs and goats) and cattle, as Ukraine's sanitary standards meet the requirements of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and those of the importing country.

"The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture [of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia] has decided to lift the temporary ban imposed on importing live sheep (lambs and goats) and cattle from Ukraine for breeding or slaughtering," the ministry's press service said in a statement.

The lifting of the ban was based on a report received from a Saudi technical team that visited Ukraine and recommended lifting the ban as Ukraine's biosecurity standards meet the special requirements of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the World Organization for Animal Health.

The Saudi technical team visited Ukraine to assess Ukraine's state control over breeding cattle and small ruminants with the aim of their shipments onto the Saudi market.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Saudi Arabia in August was studying the possibility of importing Ukrainian cattle and small ruminants.
