The state-owned Ukrgazvydobuvannya gas producer announced the discovery of another gas field in Ukraine.

It is located in the Kharkiv region, the company press service says.

At the stage of a geological study, it turned out that the reserves of the open field are at least 400 million cubic meters. Prospective resources could reach about 3.7 bcm.

The field was discovered in November after the completion of drilling and testing of an exploratory well, which had been set up following the analysis of local geology.

Now the company is set to put the well into trial operation. Further exploration works at the new field are underway.

Ukrgazvydobuvannya notes that this is the fourth new field discovered on the territory of Kharkiv region, with their total prospective resources being at 8.2 bcm.

Earlier it was reported that Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolyev was negotiating in London with several large oil and gas companies to develop gas fields in Ukraine.  According to Kobolyev, Ukraine has significant potential to restore gas production, which has been lost over the past 50 years.  During Soviet times, about 70 bcm was produced in the territory of Ukraine per year, while today, annual production does not exceed 20 bcm.

To get back to previous volumes, it is necessary to commission explored deposits, use deposits of shale gas, as well as deposits on the Black Sea shelf, according to Kobolyev.
