U.S. giant buys Ukrainian startup Teleport for $8 mln – media

U.S. giant Snap has bought up a team of five leading experts and rights to all technologies of the Teleport Future Technologies startup.

The agreement was signed in February 2018 and fully implemented in November. The deal amounted to about $8 million, LIGA.net reported citing a source.

Teleport became famous for an application allowing users to see their hair dyed in different colors. The startup attracted $1 million in investment and developed an internal technology for identifying objects in photos and videos.

Teleport set a record in the Ukrainian, Russian and Belarusian App Store, gaining more than 1 million downloads in the first days after the release. It ranked first in app stores more than a week.

Snap is not the first time buying a team from a project with Ukrainian roots. In 2015, the American social network bought Looksery, a startup developed by a team from Odesa. According to rumors, the deal amounted to $150 million.
