New record: Ukrainian farmers thresh 70 mln tonnes of grains

Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, and Khmelnytsky regions showed the highest yields.

Ukrainian agrarians as of December 19 harvested a record 70.1 million tonnes of grains, thus exceeding the previous record by 4 million tonnes, the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food reported.

According to the infographics released, Ukrainian farmers in 2018 harvested a record high crops of maize at 35.5 million tonnes, sunflower at 13.7 million tonnes, and soybeans at 4.4 million tonnes.

At the same time, the largest grain volumes were harvested in Poltava (6.4 million tonnes), Cherkasy (4.8 million tonnes), and Vinnytsia (6.1 million tonnes) regions.

The highest yield in 2018 was recorded in Cherkasy (72.8 c/ha), Vinnytsia (71.3 c/ha), and Khmelnytsky (71.6 c/ha) regions.

According to the ministry's forecasts, grain exports in 2018-2019 marketing year (MY, July 2018 - June 2019) could reach 47.2 million tonnes against 39.9 million tonnes in 2017.

At the same time, from July 1 of the current marketing year, Ukrainian farmers have already exported 21 million tonnes of cereals, in particular, 10.2 million tonnes of wheat, 3.1 million tonnes of barley, and 7.5 million tonnes of maize.

As UNIAN reported earlier, referring to the State Statistics Service, Ukraine's yield of grains and leguminous crops in 2017 decreased by 7.3% compared with 2016, amounting to 61.3 million tonnes.

The last historical record was set in 2016, when Ukrainian farmers harvested 66 million tonnes of grains, which is 5.9 million tonnes more than in 2015.
