The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the country's parliament, has extended until 2020 the moratorium on farmland sale and purchase in Ukraine.
The ban has been in place since 2001.
A total of 231 deputies supported the bill “On Amendments to Section X 'Transitional Provisions' of the Land Code of Ukraine regarding the extension of the ban on the alienation of agricultural land" with a minimum of 226 votes required.

The document notes that the extension of the moratorium for another year will allow settling at the legislative level the procedure for the circulation of these lands and developing the necessary legal acts.
